    Our Charities

The Irish Discworld Convention is a not-for-profit organisation, which means that all profits beyond what we need to organise the next convention are donated to charity. On top of this, we also host several fundraising events (most notably our grand Charity Auction).

We are deligted to announce the chosen charities for the 2023 Irish Discworld Convention are the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland, Cork Penny Dinners and Slí Eile.

IDWCon has supported Alzheimer's Society of Ireland ever since our first Convention in 2009 – not just due to the “embuggerance” itself, but also because this charity helps so many Irish people in many ways, whether it's directly helping the sufferers of dementia and Alzheimer’s themselves, or by helping their friends and family come to grips with the seemingly-hopeless situation. We know that this is cause close to all of our hearts.

Cork Penny Dinners is one of Cork’s oldest caring charitable organisations. Their aims are simple - to help all who struggle and those in need. Cork Penny Dinners provide a hot nourishing meal of soup, main course, dessert and tea/coffee daily. In addition sandwiches, biscuits, fruit and juice are also available to take away as an evening meal. We may not be physically meeting up in Cork this year, but we are proud to support this truly amazing charity that provide continuous hands-on support to those who need it most.

Slí Eile enables people with mental health challenges to recover and rebuild their lives. Slí Eile exists to promote mental health recovery and to support people to achieve lives that are enjoyable, satisfying and authentic. In the Irish language, slí eile means ‘another way’ and Slí Eile was set up to provide an alternative recovery option for those who might otherwise have to spend time in psychiatric hospital. Slí Eile has three key strategies for helping people to put their lives together: supported community living, real-world social enterprises and personal progression planning.

We come together at Discworld Conventions to meet and have fun and celebrate the works of our beloved Terry, but one of the most satisfying aspects of the cons is that we can make a real contribution while having fun. So please join us in digging deep (if you can) throughout the weekend to help support these wonderful causes.
