Our Charities

The Irish Discworld Convention is a not-for-profit organisation, which means that all profits beyond what we need to organise the next convention are donated to charity. On top of this, we also host several fundraising events (most notably our grand Charity Auction).

We have yet to decide on the Charities that we will support for the 2023 convention but we will announce that news as soon as we can.

Our previous cons supported The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, the main recipient of our charity donations ever since the first Irish Discworld Convention – not just due to the “embuggerance” itself, but also because this charity helps so many Irish people in many ways, whether it's directly helping the sufferers of dementia and Alzheimer’s themselves, or by helping their friends and family come to grips with the seemingly-hopeless situation.

We choose a local charity and a national Irish Charity as well.  In 2021 we supported Cork Penny Dinners one of Cork’s oldest caring charitable organisations. Their aims are simple - to help all who struggle and those in need. Cork Penny Dinners provide a hot nourishing meal of soup, main course, dessert and tea/coffee daily. In addition sandwiches, biscuits, fruit and juice are also available to take away as an evening meal. Our national charity was My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue, an animal welfare organisation that rescues, rehabilitate and rehomes unwanted, neglected and abused animals with the aim of giving them a life worth living. With so many animal lovers among us, we are sure you will be as delighted as we are to help this amazing charity give these abandoned animals the love and care that they so desperately need.
